Oh, Florida. Never change. Just when you think you’ve seen the most unhinged Sunshine State behavior—like the guy who tried to pay for McDonald’s with a bag of weed or the woman who stole a golf cart to flee from police—along comes Tara Alexis Sykes, who decided Roblox was the perfect platform for teaching her 10-year-old how to murder a baby.
That’s right. Forget math homework or chores—this Florida mom allegedly turned a children’s video game into Crime School 101. According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, Sykes used Roblox messages to instruct her daughter on multiple methods of infant disposal, including:
- Drowning the baby in a bathtub (because bath time is already stressful, why not add homicide?)
- Burning the baby with scalding water (for that extra crispy trauma)
- Dropping the baby on the floor (the classic “Oops, butterfingers!” defense)
And if that wasn’t enough, Sykes allegedly also coached the kid on how to murder the adults she was living with—because why stop at one crime when you can go full Florida Man villain arc? The 10-year-old was reportedly told to slit their throats in their sleep and set the house on fire using aerosol spray and bedsheets (DIY arson, anyone?).
The good news? The kid only got as far as soaking the sheets in flammable spray before realizing, “Wait, this is a terrible idea.” The bad news? She did drop the baby, resulting in a skull fracture (because Florida toddlers apparently need helmets just to survive daily life).
Sheriff Chip W. Simmons, who has seen four decades of Florida nonsense, said he was “truly disturbed” by this case—which is saying something, considering this is the state where a woman once bit a deputy’s head during an arrest.
Sykes is now jail-bound with no bond, proving once again that Florida parenting manuals need serious revisions. Meanwhile, the 10-year-old is (hopefully) getting therapy instead of advanced murder tutorials.
Moral of the story? If your mom starts DMing you homicide tips on Roblox, maybe log off and call the cops. Just a thought.
