Because stealing from the dead is totally a hobby, right?
PALATKA, FL—Move over, HomeGoods. Katherine Taylor, 61, has found a much creepier way to decorate her yard—by swiping keepsakes straight from graves like some kind of discount grim reaper.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Taylor was caught on camera casually plucking a wind chime off a grave at Etoniah Cemetery like she was picking out produce at Publix. When cops showed up at her house, they didn’t even need a search warrant—the stolen goods were proudly displayed in her yard like some kind of macabre HGTV makeover.
But here’s the kicker: This wasn’t her first rodeo. Nope. Back in 2020, Taylor got busted for the same thing at another cemetery. You’d think after getting probation, she’d maybe switch to stealing from, I don’t know, a garden center? But no. Some people just really commit to their aesthetic.
Deputies dubbed her a “habitual cemetery thief,” which honestly sounds like the worst possible title to have on your résumé.
Taylor bonded out of jail for a cool $5,000, proving once again that Florida’s most bizarre crimes come with the weirdest flexes.
So if you’re visiting a loved one’s grave in Putnam County, maybe bring a padlock. Or just accept that your memorial wind chime might end up as someone’s quirky lawn decor.
Stay weird, Florida.
