Because nothing says “workplace dispute” like a trowel to the chest and a dash of political chaos.

In the latest installment of Florida Man vs. Common Sense, Mason Trevor Toney decided that the best way to settle a political debate with his boss was not with facts, not with logic, but with a freaking trowel.

The Setup: A Normal Day in Florida (Which Means Chaos Was Inevitable)

Back in 2020, Toney and his boss, William Steven Knight, were working at a construction site near Florida’s Turnpike. Now, in any other state, a political argument might end with a passive-aggressive Facebook post or a dramatic unfriending. But in Florida? Oh no. It ends with a trowel.

Witnesses say the two got into a heated debate—Knight was a proud Trump supporter, while Toney apparently had some strong anti-government feelings. (Because nothing says “rational discourse” like calling your coworkers “terrorists” mid-stabbing spree.)

The Climax: When a Trowel Becomes a Political Statement

Things escalated faster than a Florida weather forecast. Knight allegedly screamed for help as Toney went full Home Improvement on him—except instead of Tim Allen grunting, it was just the sound of a man realizing he picked the wrong day to wear his MAGA hat to work.

Coworkers tried to intervene by throwing things at Toney (because that always works in Florida), but he fled the scene, presumably yelling something about “deep state operatives” before getting arrested later.

The Twist: Insanity Plea Saves the Day (Because of Course It Does)

After five years of legal back-and-forth, Toney was found not guilty by reason of insanity. That’s right—Florida’s justice system looked at a man who stabbed his boss with a gardening tool over politics and went, “Eh, seems legit.”

Now, instead of prison, Toney gets a cozy stay in a psychiatric facility. Because nothing says “rehabilitation” like being the guy who turned a trowel into a weapon of political destruction.

The Aftermath: A Review Hearing (Because Florida Loves a Sequel)

A hearing in August will determine if Toney is still Florida Man levels of crazy or if he’s mellowed out enough to rejoin society. (Spoiler: We’re not holding our breath.)

Meanwhile, Knight’s family insists this wasn’t about politics—just good ol’ fashioned mental instability. Because in Florida, sometimes the craziest thing isn’t the crime… it’s the fact that we’re still not surprised.
