Oh, Florida. Never change. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, another Sunshine State legend emerges to remind us why we’re the undisputed champions of What Were You Even Thinking?

Meet Luke Joseph Cahill, a 32-year-old Palm Beach County resident who apparently woke up Monday morning and decided chaos was on the menu. His brilliant plan? Call 911 and casually drop, “There’s a bomb in your parking lot,” before hanging up like he just ordered a pizza.

Now, most people might call 911 because, you know, actual emergencies. But not our guy Luke. Nope. He called from a medical facility—because nothing says “I’m making good life choices” like phoning in a bomb threat while possibly mid-IV drip.

The Aftermath: Florida Man Strikes Again

The West Palm Beach Police Department, being understandably not fans of surprise parking lot explosions, immediately shut down an entire downtown block. Roads closed. Parking garage evacuated. Cops in bomb squad gear sweating in the January heat (because Florida weather doesn’t care about your bomb scare).

Meanwhile, Luke was probably somewhere sipping a juice box, blissfully unaware that detectives were already tracking him down like a gator in a Publix parking lot.

By 6 p.m., they had him in custody, where he was promptly charged with making a false bomb threat—a felony that’s about to make his life significantly less fun.

The Real Question: Why Though?

We may never know what possessed Luke to pull this stunt. Maybe he was bored. Maybe he really wanted to test the police response time. Or maybe—just maybe—he thought “Hey, what’s the worst that could happen?” (Spoiler: The worst was indeed what happened.)

Either way, this is peak Florida. Where else can you casually derail an entire workday for law enforcement because you felt like it?

Stay tuned for the next episode of Florida Man Does Florida Things, coming soon to a police blotter near you.
