STUART, FL – A Florida bride gave new meaning to the phrase “racing to the altar”—literally. Police say her driver was caught going 105 mph in a desperate attempt to get her to the wedding on time. Spoiler alert: They were still late.
The Fast & the Matrimonial
The bride, whose name remains a mystery (probably because she’s still recovering from the embarrassment), was being chauffeured by a wedding guest when an unmarked cop car clocked them doing 105 mph in Port St. Lucie.
The wedding was supposed to start at 2:30 p.m. in Stuart—about 10 miles away. But at 2:42 p.m., instead of walking down the aisle, the bride was walking through “Why were you going 105 mph?” with a very unimpressed officer.
Cop: “Whose Wedding Is It?” Bride: “Mine.”
The officer, clearly not moved by the romantic urgency of the situation, asked the million-dollar question:
Cop: “Whose wedding is it?”
Bride: “Mine.”
Cop: “…And what time was it supposed to start?”
Bride: [silent panic]
After confirming they were already 12 minutes late, the cop did what any reasonable officer would do—gave the driver a mandatory court date instead of a speeding ticket. Because nothing says “happily ever after” like a legal summons.
“I’ll Let You Take Her… But You’re Going to Court”
In a rare act of mercy (or maybe just pity), the officer let them go—but not without a stern warning:
“Just give me a minute. I’ll let you take her. But I’m going to give you a court date. It’s a mandatory court appearance, alright?”
The driver, probably realizing they had zero bargaining power, accepted their fate. The bride, meanwhile, was just grateful she wasn’t getting married in a jail cell.
Police Department’s Savage Burn
The Port St. Lucie Police Department couldn’t resist a little humor in their statement:
“Not exactly the best way to start your wedding.”
Understatement of the year.
Did the Wedding Even Happen?
The real mystery here isn’t why they were speeding—it’s whether the wedding actually took place. Did the groom wait? Did the bride show up in a patrol car? We may never know.
But one thing’s for sure: This couple’s “how we got married” story just got a whole lot more Florida.
