ORLANDO, FL—In a story that proves Florida Man has some serious competition, local bail bondsman Russell “Bruce” Moncrief has allegedly been running a very creative side hustle—one that makes “bail now, pay later” take on a whole new meaning.
According to investigators, Moncrief, owner of multiple bail bond businesses across Central Florida, spent over a decade allegedly convincing women facing prostitution or drug charges that freedom could be theirs… for a very personal price.
Detectives say Moncrief would allegedly target vulnerable women in jail, then arrange secret meetings at totally professional locations—like, say, a Brevard County office (classy!). Phone records reportedly revealed hundreds of calls with suspiciously coded language, because nothing says “legitimate business transaction” like whispering, “Meet me at the usual spot, bring the… uh… paperwork.”
His attorney, Rose Feller, insists Moncrief is innocent, stating, “He looks forward to proving these allegations false in court.” Which, honestly, is fair—because if true, this guy wasn’t just a bail bondsman, he was running the world’s sketchiest subscription service.
Moncrief is currently out on bond (irony level: maximum), facing charges of racketeering and human trafficking. If convicted, he could trade his office meetings for a much longer stay—with a very different kind of roommate negotiation.
Stay tuned, Florida. The courtroom drama is bound to be spicier than a Publix sub left in a July sunbeam.
